Love Potion No.9 - The Human Sex Pheromone

By  K. Lee

The functions of pheromones in the Animal Kingdom are well documented since the late 1970s. It has been discovered that female moths secreting their sex pheromones could attract male moths of the same species over several miles. Since its discovery, animal pheromones have been used as an attractant or repellent for pest control and such.

In 1986 a researcher by the name of Winnifred Cutler discovered that women who stayed together at the college dormitory have synchronized menstrual cycles -- menstruating at the same time after a few months.

Other studies conducted by Cutler showed that women who had regular sex with men at least once a week tended to have more regulated menstrual cycles and fewer fertility and menopausal problems than those who had sporadic sex. The frequency of sex slowed down the decline of estrogen and hence maintained the women's fertility at a higher level. She attributed these to constant exposure of the women to male pheromones.

So, in its natural state, how does the Human Pheromone smell like? It would probably be odorless at least to the humans, just like the ultra-high frequency shrill of a silent whistle to the human audio sensory organ. Since extraction of the chemical compounds is from the human sweat, the odor from the men's locker room would probably be spot on as far as its natural fragrant is concerned.

Human Sex Pheromones were discovered in the mid-1980s. There are still a lot of controversies surrounding the findings but there are already many brands of Human Pheromones on sale in the Internet. Some are inorganic concoctions, while others are claimed to be extracts from the human sweat. Most have perfume or cologne added to probably justify for the price. But do they really work? Friends who have used them, swears by them. It is perhaps worth giving it a try, if your love life is in need of a pep-up. After all, you only apply it on your clothes or skin like in the case of perfume. You do not consume it internally.
So, would dabbing a Human Male Sex Pheromone on a man turn him into an instant Matt Damon as in "Ocean 13"--rendering Ellen Barkin's character into a woman who looses her self-control? Or would dabbing Human Female Sex Pheromone on a woman attract men to her in droves as in the case of the moths? Would we get into trouble if we accidentally dropped a bottle or two of the Male and Female Human Sex Pheromones in a shopping mall during the pre-Christmas weekend rush? Would we get to witness a scene just like in the ending of the movie "Perfume: The Story of A Murderer"?
I guess that is what is meant when we say the movie couple in "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" as having the right chemistry!
